How to pick the fastest road car

When initially checking out the other articles under this title, I noticed that everyone seemed to be pointing out cars like the Bugatti Veyron, various models of porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. Now, don't get me wrong, these are indeed the fastest cars in the world, but how about the fastest car that the average person might one day actually be able to afford? I figured I'd try to make up a convenient list of the quickest moving affordable automobiles out there. Who cares if the Bugatti Veyron has 1001 horsepower? 99.9 percent of humans in the world will never see one, let alone drive one, so lets look at some fast cars that don't fall into the "ultimate super-car" category.

The first car that I noticed just recently was the new VW Passat, with a 3.6 liter engine. Now, I should mention that I'm speaking from experience here, as a valet I get to test drive a lot of cars in a sense. As valets, we don't race cars. That is extremely dangerous, not only to us but to everyone around, and it would surely end in the loss of our jobs so we don't do that. What we do is a safe comparison of how cars get from point a to point b. So, I'm on my way to the parking garage in a new VW 3.6 liter passat. My colleauge is behind me in a new Nissan Altima with a 3.5 liter engine, when we reach the garage, and discuss the trip over, I learned that my buddy in the Altima was flooring it to try to keep pace behind me and I was "walking away" from him in the VW. I was not flooring it at all, I was just going, and I related the fact that I had thought the car accelerated more like a Mercedes than a VW. So I'll put the VW passat on the list.
Next up, I gotta go with the Ford Fusion. This car has an unexpected amount of get up and go to it. I expected it to handle and run a lot like similarly sized fords like the taurus or the focus, but it felt more like a cadillac DTS. I feel like I should mention that I'm taking into account how a car handles into the overall decision to call it fast. I'm deliberately leaving out cars like the Ford Mustang, or the Dodge Charger, because, sure they can go real fast, as long as the road doesn't curve too much. Case in point, the Ford Fusion handles perfectly to handle the high speeds that it can reach.
Allright, other quick affordable cars, you've got the new Toyota Camrys, which not only drive really well, the look really good too, nevermind the infamous reliability that comes with the Toyota badge. However, even cheaper than the camry, is the Corolla
