Poetry: Remembering

The rays light up the single spider string that hangs off my back porch
The birds they sing a tune that I have not heard in years
The sunset shining through the walnut trees that line the street
And I scream inside, God, I'm gonna miss this old place
Seems I complain more than I praise this humble abode I have come to be so
Used to the sound of the evening baseball games
The farmhouse and the same dog that is always crashing parties
And the nights out on the deck with music and the silent understanding
That this is what life is all about
And the scenery revives my aching doubt about another place to find
Where we can live to the fullest and the neighbors, they won't mind
We have a place we can call home but now another place will lace my mind with
Faint summer memories and the forgiving cool wind breeze
My upstairs neighbor knocks and I run to answer
