Poetry: Then & now

Conversations with an old friend
Seems like we're still in the halls that we walked for so long
Against the blue locker doors, staring at the tiles just waiting for the bell to ring
My mind reels when time flies past my eyes;
Thinking how I haven't walked them halls in so long
The past is gone in my eyes but not in my head
I'll never forget the hats thrown in the air, the cameras flashing
Yeah, we were stars then...weren't we?
For one whole year we were kings and now we're leeches on the bottom once again
Wishing I could do it all over again...and if I could, would things be different?
I fell in love with the hate I had for this place
I have come to hate the love I had for these people
But now I am more fond of it than anything
I was running to escape the prison walls of high school
Now I'm finding excuses to run back
I guess I never understood until now
Life is crazy
But, man, we were stars then, weren't we?
