To allow government to regulate freedom of speech is a cancer that will eat away the very core of free expression. Government already has more than enough say with its licensing of radio and television stations. They wield a pretty big stick with that. To allow them to regulate content would be a disaster. The first thing that a dictatorship or any repressive government seeks to accomplish is total control of all media. I know we think our government is a kind and benevolent great white father that has nothing more than the absolute purest of intention for caring for his "children". Notice the word "Children" in place of the word "Citizen".

All regimes have always painted themselves in the light of having nothing but loving and caring feelings towards those placed in their trust. Just like a father with his children. The government's children are molded and guided in all phases of their lives for their own good. Good children do not speak back or badly of their father. It is disrespectful. And, in any repressive regime it could cost you your life.

If you want to be a free and responsible citizen of this country then you would want to determine for yourself what media content would be of your choosing. Whether it be a talk radio show or any other public media program you are allowed to determine what is suitable for you. The freedom of the press does cover all media far as I am concerned. I think rational adults can determine for themselves what good content is and what trash is.

Most media is advertisement supported. Thus media publishers of content are dependent upon advertising dollars. You do not need government to regulate content. The economy of the marketplace (a free and open marketplace) will determine the media formats that will survive. If you find a program that irritates you enough just write to the sponsors of that media format. If enough "votes" are cast by letters of objection then that content will be pulled pretty quick. Advertisers do not like wasting their money.

We need to be responsible for our lives. We do not need government telling you how to live every moment of the day. To ask government to step in and make talk radio appear more "balanced" is ludicrous. If a talk show is unbalanced far as you can determine then find a program that is or write your local media outlet telling them what programming would be more appealing to you. You may find that balance is obtained with opposing views. No one show has all the answers or the appeal of the masses and in my eyes that is a good thing. The public can do its own balancing act very well without the need of government.
