Yes people should still be buying SUV's if they are buying them for the right reason. What is the right reason you may ask? The answer is necessity. People who have a large family and live in rural areas prone to bad driving conditions know that an SUV is essential. Let me site an example. I live in a rural area where the next closest town is 15 miles away. I live in town A but work in town B. During the winter the drive between these towns can be treacherous. Some might suggest I find a job in town A where I live. The problem is that town A has very few opportunities for employment therefore I must drive to town B for work. During the summer months I have no problem driving back and forth in my car, which is economical to drive. During the winter months, however, my car sits too low to the ground to drive in 6-12 inches of snow. If not for SUV's and four wheel drive trucks people in my area would not be able to get to work during the winter. If this were to happen people in our area would not be able to shop at local stores, visit the doctor, go to the hospital and so forth. Also, people throughout the USA would feel the effect of every storm we have since our area produces a large amount of the trona (used for baking soda and glass) in the US. We are also a large coal and oil producing state.

So, if you are buying an SUV out of necessity go for it, but, if you are buying an SUV for appearance or prestige think about buying a more economical vehicle that will suit your needs and ego.
