I think Reggie Theus was a pretty nice hire by the Sacramento Kings, but that franchise has a very long way to go before they are going to be contenders for the NBA title. It doesn't really matter who they hired as head coach, they wouldn't have a chance to win an NBA title anytime in the near future.

For the most part, the Kings have a lot of veterans that are past their prime (Mike Bibby, Brad Miller, Shareef Abdur-Rahim), or just plain crazy (Ron Artest). That's not a good sign. They weren't able to make the playoffs last year, and now they'll be even older, and that's usually not a good recipe to make the playoffs, let alone contend for a title.

Really, the Kings just need to blow things up and rebuild with some of the younger pieces. They should look to try and trade guys like Ron Artest, Mike Bibby, and Brad Miller to get some younger players and draft picks. That way they can build around guys like Kevin Martin (who was great last year), Quincy Douby, Fransisco Garcia, and whoever they get with the 10th pick. That is probably their best chance for long-term success.

So is Reggie Theus going to lead the Sacramento Kings to an NBA title? I highly, highly doubt that. But then, the Kings are just simply not a good team right now, and they don't look like they are really going to get much better anytime soon. Reggie Theus isn't going to lead them another title, and realistically no coach would be able to do that anytime in the near future.
