Should gays and lesbians be allowed civil unions but marriage? Wow, quite the topic to write about. Please keep in mind as you read this that this is my opinion. I know there will be those whom disagree, but please be respectful.
In my opinion, I believe that gays and lesbians should not only be given the freedom and the right to have a civil union but they should also have the right to get married! This is America, Land of the FREE! Why should it only be a free nation for those of us whom are straight? We let illegal immigrants come to America and marry a citizen and then have all of the rights of honest Americans and yet we deny BORN Americans these rights? Something does not seen natural or free about that to me! Immigrants can come to America and get their citizenship and get married, get insurance, and have families, YET we deny this to our own? Why does it matter to anyone what sex the couple is? If you are straight does it affect you that Mary and Elizabeth are in love and want to show that with vows? Does it hurt you if Roger and Mark want to spend the rest of their lives as husbands? Does that effect your everyday life? NO! Does it change your relationship with your husband or wife? NO! Does it change your family status? NO! The only thing that it changes at all is that ALL Americans would be free to marry whom they love....without ridicule or difficulty! Being gay or lesbian is not some kind of disease or plague that is going to spread across America like a wildfire and take out innocent people! It is not a choice that people have....they are born either straight, gay/lesbian, or bi. They didn't ask to be put in a controversial position! They simply ask to be treated and respected like everyone else. They are people...with feelings and thoughts....just like anyone else! Don't you think they deserve to have the same rights as you and I? Isn't it said that all people are created equal? Don't we treasure that saying? Then why treat anyone like they are not our equals because of their sexuality? You can not deny someone a job because of their race or religion or sexuality, BUT you can deny them right to the pursuit of happiness by denying them the right to be married based on sexuality? Come on people! This is America....the same blood was shed for their rights as it was for yours and mine! My family's blood and so many other family's blood! As for the religious aspects of this subject. Quite frankly I think it is time that we sit back and
