There are hundreds of issues that need reason, dialogue and compromise. Doesn't mean you'll get it. For time's sake and me developing carpal tunnel syndrome, let's focus in on the middle east for a moment. I know that's a big shocker.
What other place in the world can use reason, dialogue and compromise more than the hub of Arab/Muslim extremism?
How does one go about reasoning with someone who believes that killing himself along with as many infidels as possible will grant him a one way ticket to heaven for fun in the sun with a heap of virgins. Plus he'll get to invite 70 of his family members...come on down! The infestation of religious dogmas has further corrupted a group of people who's lives consist of dirt, poverty, little to no education, brutality towards women, and dictatorships. Given the chance to escape earth and end up in heaven with the virgins, strapping on a bomb is much less painful than living out the next 30 or 40 years in their current conditions. Reason is no longer valued. Reason exists only in the pages of the Koran or whatever other work of fiction is taken as the infallible word of a god.
Dialogue is great. Talk to hear yourself talk. Again we find ourselves speaking to a wall. Go ahead, pick one and start talking. When the issue of which one of you will be spared by god, dialogue is as useful as a garden hose in a forest fire. You might think you are accomplishing something but really...not so much.
Compromise. You can't compromise one's soul. One's eternity is not up for bartering or compromising for the greater good. god needs his followers on the path of righteousness.
Forget reason, dialogue and compromise. They have failed and will continue to fail. Now, maybe more than ever, it is time for action, silence and to draw our line in the sand?
