I fought with my shield on my back, spearing with my left and chopping heads with my sword in my right; I had no sense of time, for if time was with me, I did not know it, I only saw the darkness of the morning, that became a day, this fight and this battle
Colgrin's men were shattered and running with our horses. I gave a hard nudge into my horse's sides and flew ahead, where I saw the Red Dragon, I saw it on a tiny rise of hill, saw it and not the Angle who came then from nowhere as nowhere always is the place where death comes from. He bashed the living brains out of my horse's skull with a hammer, and the beast went down and took me with it. I hit the ground so hard I felt my head hit even harder, but I knew by instinct that if I didn't move to get up fast I would die. I was on my feet in a moment, dizzy. My horse lay dead, while all around me were fighting Angli the one who had downed my horse came at me in a rage. My spear was gone, flung out of my hand when I went down.
I drew my fox-head sword and went into battle, one on one with the one who had felled me. He was huge, trussed up in a great black battle jacket and a long beard that was splattered with blood; his eyes were wild, and I fought him, he smashed my spatha out of my right hand with his hammer, his club, I didn't know what it was, tried to club my head, swung at me like a wild man in every direction, bellowed at me as I pulled my gladius, but couldn't hold it. My right hand was numb. He pushed me back towards the body of my horse, I jumped it, turned and felt a great shattering agony suddenly rip into my left arm; my arm went numb, worse than my right hand. I looked and saw an arrow sticking out just above my left elbow; no blood right then, but it crippled my arm, and try as I did, I could not hold onto my sword. My fingers would not move, and no matter how hard I tried to hold onto the handle, it fell and I was unarmed.
The Angle laughed at me and again swung his club, but I was always fast on my feet and he missed, missed again, he jumped the body of my horse and I fell back, seeking for my swords so I could fight on. If I were dying, I knew it only then for Arthur I would die, but it was over. The Angle drew a great axe out of his belt, a great long handle and he wielded it like a demon.
I looked for a way out, but there were fighting men all around me. I ran back towards my horse, where I knew I had dropped my spear, I couldn't find it, some of our own horses came in, and
