A dramatic and very tasty cocktail that is sure to impress is the Basil-lime Martini.
There are two ways to make this:
First the martini style, for making them one at a time.
Make and cool a batch of simple syrup. (equal parts sugar and water heated until sugar dissolves)
Take 5 basil leaves and muddle with abundant ice and 1.5 oz simple syrup
add 1.5 oz vodka and 1/2 lime juiced and shake vigorously.
strain and pour in chilled martini glass garnish with single basil leave floating in cocktail.
For a party, I would recommend making a big batch of basil limeade and mixing it on the rocks with vodka in a tumbler.
Basil limeade:
2 cups lime juice
2 cups simple syrup
2 cups water
(adjust sweetness and acidity to taste)
puree mixture in blender with 1 bunch of basil leaves
strain mixture
tear fresh basil leaves and float in pitcher with limeade.
