I have written this article on the basis of who I feel are the top ten musical artists. This is not necessarily on a commercial basis but based on the fact that each band or person is highly individual.
I have very varied taste in music, some may say eclectic, others would no doubt say something entirely different. Limiting this review to Ten is really hard but for me these are the participants of my top ten. You will be able to guess my age, from this list, I should think.
BOB DYLAN
^^^^^^^^^^
As an innovative performer of the early sixties he was definitely one of a kind. With a voice not truly designed for signing his distinctive rough tones suited the times and the music so well. The personality of the young Bob Dylan and his angry young man stance made him the hero of a generation. He is a performer who is still going strong, and appealing to many age groups, 40 years later. Long may he continue.
EDITH PIAF
^^^^^^^^^^
This diminutive French singer died far too young in 1963 at the age of 47. The huge voice which boomed from such a tiny woman was awe inspiring. One of her most memorable recordings for me was No Regrets. French people adored her and she aided many with her work for the resistance, in France, during the Second World War. An inspiring lady both as a person and a singer.
JIMI HENDRIX
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
For me the greatest rock guitarist ever and an exceptional entertainer. Jimi is another musician to attain iconic stature partially through his untimely death. Having had only four years at the top he died on September 18, 1970 aged 27. From such a short career he left behind many mind blowing albums which still have credibility today.
THE BEATLES
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Fab Four were the start of a succession of four piece bands combining guitarists, singer and a drummer. This combination was pretty bog standard for many years. The Beatles wrote a vast array of memorable songs and music which they, and others, recorded. Looking back it's hard to realise that they were classed as such outlaws by parents of the day, but they were. Of course this just added to the appeal. When they landed on the scene they had a totally fresh, new and young appeal.
The band were formed in Liverpool on Jan 1, 1960. Their career together lasted until 1970 when Paul said that he was leaving the band and a messy separation took place. Each member moved on to other things, which in a way they had already been doing. However their days as The Beatles left behind great music, fun films and happy

It is difficult to say who would be the top-selling music artist in history. Each period of music has had it's greats, and

It's truely amazing how many people have overlooked this information. Only a few months ago Nirvana surpassed Elvis for record
