Paid blogging: Saving up for a rainy day

In the beginning, people blogged for fun, often writing about their personal lives, or things they enjoyed most. Their passions, etc.

Then came the Internet marketers. After realizing the power and influence blogs could have, they used it as a means of promoting their products.

And now, we have what we call 'Paid Blogging' or much more commonly referred to as 'Sponsored Posting' since the blogs are not entirely paid. They have individual posts that are sponsored.

So, how exactly does Sponsored Posting help you save up for a rainy day. Or maybe, make enough to afford that new series of Dell's gaming computers?

If you are a passionate blogger, just as I am, you'll know how to go about finding and writing sponsored items on your blog.

One site that I see being promoted highly on the Wild Wild Web is PayPerPost.Com. Basically, it is a marketplace. Where advertisers meet bloggers. But of course, since I am writing about Sponsored Posting in general, my entire focus WILL NOT be on PayPerPost.

At PayPerPost, advertisers looking for exposure on their services/products, choose a specific amount they are ready to pay for each post on each individual blog, and the criteria of the blog to qualify. Possibly the pagerank, or alexa traffic rank, or a combination of both.
Bloggers who qualify can take these 'paid opportunities'. And write about them on their blogs. Submit them. Once reviewed, and accepted, they get paid.

Now, this sounds similar to the system that we have here at Helium. But the difference is, that if you have a highly popular blog, a single sponsored post could make you as much as you would by writing over a hundred articles here at Helium.

Anyway, back to Paid Blogging. For bloggers this has been just another way of monetizing their websites in addition to displaying those text/image advertisements.
For advertisers, more exposure.

Of course, people who setup blogs for the sole purpose of making money are often considered as spam blogs and unethical. Now this depends on personal opinions, and is a highly debatable issue.

Apart from this, there are numerous other websites that offer such services.

Bloggerwave.Com, ReviewMe.Com, etc. A simple search on google is all that is required.

A major con of Sponsored Posting, the way I see it, is that most advertisers specify that their product be reviewed in a completely positive tone. This at times, means that the potential negative points of a product/service are never highlighted, thus luring the consumer into believing that the product/service is a top class one. This effectively means, that to earn a few bucks, some bloggers are willing to write false information about various products/services.
