2007-08 Fantasy football draft rankings: Quarterbacks

Last year I passed on both LaDainianTomlinson and Larry Johnson to take a quarterback in the first round of each my three fantasy football drafts, the results were three league titles. That's right, I won every league I entered and taking the right quarterback at the right time, when others where haggling over the ball carriers, was the key. Of course it helps when that 1st round quarterback pick was spent on Peyton Manning, after all the man is in a league of his own. So how will the top fantasy quarterbacks stack up this year? Let's take a look.

1) Peyton Manning:

Is there a more consistent performer in the NFL than Peyton Manning? The man has never had a season where he has not thrown for at least 3,700 yards and 26 touchdowns since he came into the league. Often you can count on him to be over 4,000 yards and 30 tds. Of late Peyton has also shown a decrease in interceptions, throwing away only nine over each of the pass two seasons, as well as a penchant for scoring a few on the ground when the opportunity presents itself. You can never go wrong with making Peyton your number one pick, so let go of the notion that you need either Tomlinson or Johnson to win.

2) Tom Brady:

Haven't you heard that one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the NFL just got himself two legitimate deep threat receivers? Brady and the Patriots have added all-world receiver Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth this off-season. Look for Brady to be just under the 4,000 yard mark with about 25-28 tds, which are Manning like numbers. If you can't get Peyton, take Brady.

3) Drew Brees:

With the emergence of Colston and Bush as big home run threats, and the addition of Tennessee receiver Robert Meacham, Brees is poised for another big season. Look for the Saint's passer to get near the 4,000 yard mark again, and add 25 tds, as the Saints put up another season of over 400 points on offense.

4) Carson Palmer:

The AFC is rich with top rank quarterbacks, and Carson Palmer is not too far behind the top two. Palmer has a potent offense at his disposal and there is no reason why the man who throws to Chad "Ocho-Cinco" Johnson won't post numbers near his 2006 totals. Look for Palmer to be around 3,800 yards and 23-25 tds.

5) Philip Rivers:

Any team with LT and Antonio Gates as building blocks will no doubt have a strong offense. The Charger's lack of big threat receivers will keep Rivers from venturing higher than fifth, but he will come through with over 3,500 yards and 22-25 tds.

6) Michael Vick:
