What the south of France is famous for

The South of France is famous to french people not just for its crowded beaches of the french riviera, but also for the climate and traditions centered around this climate:

The climate is known as sunny, dry rocky and grassy known for sudden rainstorms, but agreable a summer night to have dinner outside under lamplight. During this dinner one would hear the sounds of cicadas, a big type of cricket that makes a washboardy call from the tress and bushes.

Near the sea the land drops quickly to the water where there are beautiufl beachs and rock formations. Along the sea there is the famous town of Marseille where the Count of Monte Cristo was locked on the Ile d'If and the towering church Notre Dame de la Garde still shows pockmarks from WWII shells. Further in town is Avignon known for its summer arts festival and Aix-en-Provence, a town of fountains and thermals written sometimes as the place where Mary Magdelene was seen in her final moments.

The South of France is known for its textiles and pottery as well. Ther was a period where french people became very interested in Indian patterns, but the king outlawed the importation of forgeign weaves so the people of the south of france designed their own patterns; their version of Indian designs. Now Provence, a region in the South of France, is known for its detailed table clothes and curtains. Pottery also bears many traditional pattterns. With roosters and colorful, detailed patterns, one finds plates and bowls of local atrisans in lany stores in the South of France.

Of course the French Riviera is nice too. Theres the town of Nice known for big hotels on the water and lavish schooners. Cannes is just down the coast where the Cannes Film Festival is held and in Antibes there is a former house of the painter Pablo Picasso now a beautiful museum.
