If she is wise, she will profit from her stay in jail.
Now before anyone gets bent out of shape by the comment, let's discuss this like reasonable intelligent adults. First of all, there are lots of ways to profit. Paris can take the easiest way out and write a quick and dirty best seller. I am sure that in the circles she travels in, she can come up with a decent ghost writer or two. If she was to do this and if the general public was dumb enough to buy it after the media hawks it, well more power to her.
But if the wayward Miss Hilton were to be a little more shrewd and not run off to cash in in the quickest way possible, she would take some time to mount a proper PR campaign that would propel her celebrity status to all all-time high. A carefully crafted campaign would have her traveling in a different circle, a circle in which contrition and sorrow for a missed spent life would be the order of the day. Perhaps she could surface, go on talk shows and talk about something totally new like the new "Paris Hilton Scholarship Program" she is going to be setting up. It would be an unconventional move, one not expected by the American public, and one that would go over well with a nation in love with stories of redemption. She could in fact play the part of a modern day Jean Valjean, the central figure in Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. Valjean did the most with his second chance in life.
Would Paris truly profit from this delay in cashing in on her recent stay in jail? Would her status drop any for not rushing out a best seller and instead taking the road least traveled? You bet. Want proof, look at Angelina Jolie. Sure she was and is a popular actress and sex symbol, but why is she forgiven for the marriages she has broken up along the way? Well, because she is a champion of causes now, her adoption of third world children and her endless crusading on their behalf makes her a standard for good. Or at least as close to a standard as she can be. Because of this, she is admired, redeemed and loved, and she profits from it. Jolie's popularity grows, it does not diminish, her sins of the past quickly forgiven by both the press and her public.
So could not party girl Paris take a page out of the same book? Could she not profit in a huge way by taking on a cause, adding value to her life, and redeeming herself in the eyes of all? Of course she can, if she is smart. Then, and only then, could the best seller be written as more than a puff piece for the ultimate dollar. There are many ways to profit in this world, here is hoping that Paris chooses the right way to cash in.
