Common themes in the poetry of Elizabeth Bishop

The writings of Elizabeth Bishop are more humorous than anything else. Not a single one of her poems reflect poetry, love, sadness, anger or any emotion. Here's a breakdown of each and every one of her pieces. You'll find yourself much amused and insulted, maybe something she was aiming for, but they don't follow the lines of poetry. There is no emotion that really takes you away other than laughter if that counts. You'll be amused anyway.

A Miracle for Breakfast entails that she just sits there and sipping her coffee waits for a moment to insult passer byers different than her. A Prodigal is where she's probably talking about a black man and her hatred for black men. Anaphora translates as her as a higher class woman and her superiority as a higher class woman. Argument must have something to do with her fight for flight from ones she finds as less ordinary. Arrival At Santos is about Mexicans and her thoughts about them. At the Fishhouses is what she will use to tell you that she has no desire to hang out with you even though you think you're friends and that this is what you should be doing because you're a nerd. Cape Breton is where she really tried to tell you that she is a womanly woman who can and this is how take your boyfriend from you. Casabianca is just her announcement of doting. Chenin De Fer is how she will talk to your love to take him away. Cirque D'Hiver is a description of an anchor. Conversation is her aim to sound like a baby. Exchanging Hats is her accomplishment of both trying to insult and explain how she doesn't think other minds work of the unknown peoples. Filling Station is self explanatory. First Death In Nova Scotia is a story that is guaranteed to win a man over. Five Flights Up, she is trying to describe herself as scared. Florida is what you say to let a boy know you're thinking about Florida. Giant Snail is a space filler. Giant Toad should be self explanatory. I Am in Need of Music is a rain dance for men. In the Waiting Room, this poem is supposed to keep you forever. Insomnia is what she does in insomnia and is what she should do in insomnia try to keep the beautiful. Invitation to Miss Marianne Moore, how would it be if you could steal the groom from the bride? Large Bad Picture I could swear is about death. Letter To N.Y. is just a letter to a friend in New York. Little Exercise is a thinking game. Love Lies sleeping refers to homosexuals. Lullaby For the Cat is her version of a lullaby. Manners where she talks about her
