violence and wars to gain the needed resources. Then diplomacy and co-operation (accompanied by the constant threat to revert back to violence/war) was used to maintain its supremacy.
Political leaders have been chosen based on their capacity to provide for the needs of the community. These needs include protection from any perceived danger to the community's way of life. Thus, politicians and other important community leaders gained power, glory, and control over the community's resources. Some of these leaders have manipulated the people's emotions in order to satisfy their own greed. Those leaders have led their countries into wars.
Many greedy politicians seek more power and wealth. They ignore their fellow citizens, claiming that they are doing what is in the best interest of their countries. Meanwhile, their fellow citizens are afraid of taking responsibility for the world around them. These denizens continue to elect any leader who claims they will solve all the problems.
Then, the political leaders use war and armed conflicts as a way to obtain more power, and as a solution to several problems. Controlling overpopulation, as well as getting rid of perceived enemies is some advantages gained by war mongers. Economic recessions/depressions, and high unemployment rates are also dilemmas that nations use war to resolve.
Thus, it may be said that countries go to war because their citizens (especially the politicians) are acting out of fear, egotism, or greed. Usually, it is a combination of greed, egotism, and fear that causes the violence to erupt. Violence cannot stamp out another person's thought or another country's belief system. Might does not make anyone more right or wrong.
Maybe with advanced technology and better communication skills, people will come to realize that we are all members of a single species: the human race. No two people think, feel, and live life exactly the same way. Therefore, why should anyone logically expect all 6,782,240,269 members of the human race to be exactly the same?
It's time for everyone to simply agree that it's alright to live life in different ways. Our ancestors utilized communication skills and co-operation to establish 194 countries and various great civilizations in the past. There's no logical reason why we cannot use these same skills to establish and sustain a global society today, with humanity's survival as our one common goal. Humans can now make a conscious choice between using violence or co-operation to obtain what they need for survival. We do not have to revert back to primitive instincts.
