I graduated from an all-male high school in 2003. In august of this year (2007), I will be graduating from the University of Arizona.
The difference between coed class rooms and single-sex classrooms is not great. Simply because there isn't sexual tension shooting off the walls in all directions doesn't mean the distractions aren't just as bad.
In an all male high school, there is nothing to worry about. None of the guys in class are stressed about trying to look great in front of the women...so they pay attention to class more, right?
Not really. In fact, it seems to create a more comfortable atmostphere for joking, talking during class, etc...Without the girls around, guys care less about their actions.
At U of A, all of my classes were coed. Although it does seem to hold a different atmostphere, the general class interactions were the same. It seems that people act much less childish in college...but that's just natural and expected. If the students in my classes were taken back to high school age, they'd probably be acting similarly to the students at my all male-high school.
Overall, I do not think the sex of the students affects their intake of information. However, this is only from my experience and could be different anywhere you go.
