Once I was a child
In a world of wondrous splendor
With lollipops and lemon drops,
And dripping ice cream cones.
Stuffed giraffes once held tight
And teddy bears, cuddly delight.
Dolls with ribbons in shiny hair,
Frilly dresses to wash and wear.
Scooter cars and wagons,
Tricycles with wobbly wheels.
Skinned knees and cuts and bruises
Bobby socks falling round my ankles
Christmas trees and Halloween,
Birthday party balloons and things.
Once I was a child.
No more now but just as good.
