Dog walking safety

Dog walking safety is just as important, for humans as well as dogs. It is excellent exercise, for owners as well as their dogs, which makes for a bonding time between dogs and their owners. Providing it is done safely.

There are laws are to be obeyed, these days while walking your dogs. On all main roads, here in Adelaide, South Australia, you must have your dogs on leaders. On our local suburban beaches, our dogs must be on leaders at all times and at certain times. These laws are set for your own personal safety. Some dogs react differently to other dogs depending on their mood at the time. Some days my dog Charlie, will have good days and want to talk and play with other dogs and another day he will be easily upset. My other dog Tibby, would then follow suit and want to argue. Therefore, you have to be careful even with your own dogs to be responsible animal owners. For people that walk with companion dogs, you can usually tell who they are; we should respect them and not hinder them in any way.

We have to be aware of all aspects of safety while walking our dogs, safety of other humans. During the times we walk, we should keep to lighted areas whilst walking so we for protection. I'm certain Charlie would protect me while walking. You could also carry a mobile phone so you can keep in touch with your home at all times, if you get into trouble. My dogs would protect me so I take care to protect them at all times. Most dog people that I meet are genuine where I walk so, I feel lucky. In most places if you use common courtesy, you will be safe in most area walking your dogs.

The other safety aspect of walking is dog attacks, which is common in the news these days. Most people will put their dogs back on the leader while walking in the parks if they see you coming. There is that odd person that may not put their dog on the leader, which you must be wary off!

My dogs, Tibby and Charlie enjoy there walks at the beach where we holiday. We holiday in a country town called "Coo bowie", a beach side resort town on the York Peninsula South Australia. On the beach in the country, you can let your dogs of the leader as long as you respect the other beach users. If you see other dogs or humans coming in your direction, put your dogs on the leader. There is also the other aspect of other people's property, because there is many beach homes in the area. We always keep our dogs on the leader passing their homes, because we do not like trespassers in town, neither do the people in the country.

There is an old saying, which I live by "Treat other as you would like to be treated."

If we live by that saying, we should not have any problems with dogs or humans.

I realize there maybe people out there looking for brochures on, "Dogs walking safety" the best idea is to approach your local council. They will have all the pamphlets on the subjects. Then you can be sure you are obeying the rules and safety issues.

Now I am walking four dogs, two are my daughters. My daughter and her husband are on holidays now. I really appreciate the safety issues of walking dogs safely during this time. AS I would have hated too have told her, one of her dogs had, had an accident. Walking four dogs is a hard task, but if you do it properly, it's a lot of fun. I just loved every moment of my time with my daughters dogs, it was exhausting but pleasant time.
