music and emo culture. Perhaps for most of them, the reason they love this emotional style of music is because they are struggling to fit in and they are already feeling the emotions associated with this music, so now they have found something to relate to, and if anything, that is a positive.
Much like the earlier fad of the goth culture, with a similar attire, yet different, many of the individuals took on this new style because of an inability to fit in. They struggled to be mainstream and be like everyone else, because they were not like everyone else. So they refused to follow the trendy patterns and listen to the popular music. However now EMO music is very popular, often on the top of the charts. This means that not only EMO's themselves love this music, but so do other people from different sub groups. I can say that even I like it at times.
Perhaps the appeal with EMO music is the token dweeb for a front man. The singer with the whiny nasal voice, that gives them hope that if he can find success, then so can they. And the appeal of having idols who are not afraid to be different, expressing themselves through fashion that makes them stand out from a crowd. There are a lot of reasons why EMO music appeals to individuals. Until you take the chance to understand that individual, you will never really know the appeal.
