Why democracy is or isn't the best method for every country

has shown that true democracy, when it represents the collective will of the people, seldom moves a society or a government in a direction convenient to foreign interests, and the U.S. State Department together with the CIA have a long and sad history of rigging elections, organizing coups, assassinating political figures or even starting wars just to prevent the population of a given country from electing a candidate hostile to their interests. Thus from the point of view of an imperialist, Democracy is always a good idea, as long as nobody votes for a party the imperialist doesn't like.

It can only be said that there are more criterion in which Democracy better serves the needs of its nation. This is because the needs of the nation transcends the needs of the ruling elites; because Democracy, as an engine for majority rule and a means to guarantee greater economic, political and social equality, cannot help but be more concerned with the needs of the majority than an elite and powerful minority. One can become exceptional in a democratic society, one can even become extremely wealthy by his or her own efforts. But in a society where everyone is given equal share in the government, the influence of the wealthy is no greater than the influence of the destitute, and no one may turn his back on his responsibility to his community or his fellow countrymen without being called to account.

At the end of the day, it depends on how you define "Best." If "Best" means "Liberty and Justice For All," or "All men are created equal" or "All men have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," then Democracy, properly implemented, becomes the best method for every man woman and child on the face of the Earth. At worst, however, Democracy becomes a nuisance, an inconvenience, even a threat to the prosperity of a very small number of people who, through any number of methods, have amassed unprecedented wealth and success amongst themselves. If we are willing to accept that some exceptional people must be inconvenienced from time to time for the betterment of the rest of mankind, then we can accept that Democracy is the greatest hope for the future of our people.
