Male birth control: On the way?

A responsibility so large you may no longer have to leave it up to your partner. A reality is, the male birth control may be soon available. It is a reality that is currently in the making and should be available in the next five years. No longer, will it be necessary for the woman to take on the role as the sole decision maker within regards to birth control.

Would men use this option if it was provided to them? Women have had this option since the sixties so why has this been so long in the making? Prior to these discoveries men had been limited to condoms and a vasectomy. The market is there, men make up a third of the demographics that are using birth control (condoms and vasectomy) and the appeal has left many waiting for this solution.

In the future there will be options for men - taking the sole responsibility away from women. There will be options given of a daily pill taken orally, or a patch, an injection or even a gel applied to the skin!

With the same choices that were traditionally given to women, we are soon going to equipped with the choice of what to do with out own body. Seattle researchers feel that this technology and developments are near to us within the next five years.

The devices will contain and release a timed amount of testosterone. This amount of testosterone and progestins are formulated to turn off sperm production, in the same way that contraception for a woman prevents ovulation or attachment of the egg.

Whether it is an annual injection, a daily pill, or a rod placed under the skin it is a tricky process that requires additional research. Over 100,000 sperm are produced through ejaculation and although only 5% are motile - this still leaves little room for error. A hormonal effect has the most appeal; since testosterone will be increased it may also offer a cure for such things as baldness or prostate cancer.

Participants in the study rarely had sexual side effects, or mood changing effects. In fact, most participants were satisfied with the results yielded from the study. Although there are many more studies to be completed - we can rest assured that these products will be soon available to men everywhere!

We have five years to wait, but that is five years longer that researchers have to perfect it - so there are a minimal amount of mistakes!
