OK, the way to win the championship of your fantasy football league is to outscore all the other teams you face. It is much easier said than done. It matters not what format your league uses it is the players you have on the team that ultimately matters. So prior to any draft whether it is the rookie draft, free agent draft, etc. You need to study the players available to select the best possible personnel you can muster. Not only selecting players for your starters but for filling spots on team bye weeks when a player is unavailable and for possible player injuries.
It is a daunting job to scout the whole National Football League and knowing each player's stats and if he is a starter on the team he is playing for. You want to select players that are starters. This is particularly true for Quarterbacks and Place kickers. Most teams rely on the same player each week under normal conditions so you absolutely need to make sure your selections for these positions are definite starters. Positions such as running back, wide receiver and tight end it is possible to select a player who is second on the depth chart for their team but is used heavily in each game. In all instances you want starters for each position but a good second on a team's depth chart can be used to cover in the circumstances of player injury or a team's bye week.
The fantasy football league I am a member of also allows for defensive and special teams scoring so make sure you select a team that is good in overall defense and special team play. Depending on the number of defensive teams your league allows they need to at least allow for two teams to cover one team being on a bye week. So before you select your defenses you will need to check the schedule to make sure that they do not have the same bye week.
My league is what they call a keeper league which means you select players and sign them to multiyear contracts. The league has a salary cap so you need to be careful not to overspend your allotted budget on a player. Free agent bidding can be an easy way of going over the limit on the salary cap. The other aspect is our league holds a rookie draft where you can select players who may not be starters this year but could possibly be the stars of the future. If you have a high draft position rookie selected for your team you may want to consider giving them a multiyear contract to keep them on the team.
Our league deducts a year from each player's contract at the start of the season and all players
