put on taxes.
If you live on Long Island forget about it. If you make $80,000 a year you are considered rich. No help with college grants or assistance. We pay for the "No Child Left Behind Act." Our school taxes keep going up an average of at least $500.00 a year. Yet, we must pay for tutors to teach our children to pass SAT's, ACT's, and pass regents. The school system is failing. Corruption is all around us. Yet, I hear there is nothing we can do. I do not believe that. Start to stand up and be heard. Vote, volunteer, get involved in politics, go to town board meetings and school board meetings.
Yes, I probably could save around $30.00 a week. What for? What is the interest rate? Banks do not even have savings accounts anymore. They penalize you if you do not keep a minimum amount in your savings account. They want you to borrow. They want you to take out lines of credit against your homes. Children who go to college walk away with an average of $80,000.00 in student loans. How will they pay that back? How will they ever be able to save.
This is not the generation like in the 50's where a brand new home could be bought for $10,000.00 and you did not have to fix it up for at least 15 years. Bills stayed the same for many years. Health insurance was not even an issue. Moms were able to stay home and not worry about child care payments. Neighbors and families were able to enjoy each other.
Ever walk around any neighborhood now. It is like a ghost town. No moms, no children laughing and playing together. Families have parents working two or three jobs just to stay above water. One crisis and they are on the brink of losing their homes.
Do not get sick. Do not stop working. Do not enjoy family get togethers. Do not count on the politicians helping you. They are too busy trying to get themselves re-elected.
This generation is in the middle. We must help our parents and children. We have no time for enjoyment. Worry is consistently in our vocabulary.
Save. What a joke. I live modestly and watch every penny. Pennies are not even worth $10.00 anymore.
Yes! We are not able to save as there is no incentive anymore. Our jobs are going overseas. Jobs here are being taken over by illegal immigrants. Our rights and privileges have been taken away.
I will keep making my voice known. I will let everyone I know to start speaking up and take a stand. We deserve social security, decent health care insurance, a chance for our children to go to college, a chance to own a home, a chance to better the lives of our children.
Once last thing. I am grateful for what I have. Volunteer and Support Our Troops.
