Causes and implications of rising oil prices

We get outraged when Paris Hilton gets sent back to jail. We get outraged when movie stars adopt foreign children. Yet, we can't seem to get anyone visually upset with the rising prices of gasoline. Ever wonder why?

Americans are not willing to sacrifice their lifestyles over extra money at the pump. We just aren't. Honestly, and I hate to say this, I'm not sure that enough people even care about the rising prices in gasoline to even figure out what is causing it.

The implications? Those are simple. Just charge it. A recent study showed that Americans are saving less and less, and really, how could we possibly save more? In Illinois, electric rates jumped over 20%. Gas prices are up over 30% from a few months ago. Companies are passing these costs onto the consumers, raising the price of just about everything. Americans aren't getting high enough raises to keep up with these trends.

It seems simple to me, but what do I know.
