There are many uses for wine bottles. Wash and disinfect them, first of all, then decide what you want to do with them
Paint flowers, butterflies, whatever you would like on the outside. Simple 'one-stroke' painting magazines can be purchased at supermarkets, if you don't like the way you paint now. Finish the project by spraying your art with hairspray. (It is lacquer, after all).
If you can get corks or twist-on lids for the bottles, make flavored vinegars. I heat the vinegar on the stove top, not to a boil, and add what herb I have chosen. Let it seep for up to an hour and remove the cooked herbs. Throw them out. A few sprigs of fresh herbs left in the bottle decorate it nicely. All you have to do is add a bow to make a wonderful homemade gift.
Since wine bottles come in many colors, make jewelry! This takes a little more time, but the results are worth it. You need a rock tumbler for this project. Place the bottle in a heavy paper sack and break it with a hammer. (Wine bottles are tough! You might have to smack it several times.) After it breaks, open the bag and dig out the pieces that look like they could be wire wrapped. Wear gloves, tho! You then place the pieces in the tumbling barrel, and follow the instructions included with it. Add grit, put on the lid and tumble! Recommended time for glass is considerably less than rocks. Open the barrel every day, also, as glass release gasses and will bloat the barrel otherwise. I tumble glass in each grit approx. 24 hours. You decide how smooth and rounded you want yours! After all 4 grits, wash the man-made gems in soapy water, rinse and let dry. You now have a supply of pendants to wire wrap!
Those are just a few ways to recycle and be creative.
