How many people have no health insurance

and confused her severely at times. I expressed my concern about this drug when I witnessed her get extremely agitated with a nurse and try to bite her on the arm! I honestly feel that they have administered this Neanderthal drug to my Mom to "babysit" her. This was the only drug she was on also, so it could not have been any others. She is on a total parental nutrition (TPN IV bag) a catheter and colostomy bag, thats it. Haldol was supposedly to calm her down, but all it did was knock her out for a few hours at most, and then she would wake up throughly confused and be just as agitated. I firmly believe Haldol has reduced her recovery time and is given because my Mom is deemed too active by a lazy hospital staff. I've voiced my concern to the doctor and nursing staff about Haldol for 10 + days now and my Mom even had one wonderful nurse that refuses to put her on Haldol when she is working ( which is only 3 days a week, they work 12 hour shifts from 7am to 7 pm or 7pm to 7am). One of my Moms girlfriends raised also a serious issue today and I have thought long and hard about it and feel it could also be a major factor in her treatment. My Mom as I previously mentioned has no insurance. She spent over a month in an intensive care unit at approximately $3,000 to 4,000 dollars a day. And maybe at this point they realize she will never ever be able to repay this bill in her lifetime. Which I think is unfair to base a persons treatment on their financial portfolio and how likely they are to pay medical bills back. Her bill I can only imagine ( with the first trip to the hospital which was approximately 30 to 35K) is upwards of 200,000 dollars plus!

BUT they always say it is about saving lives and leading a good life correct? It seems in my Moms' case the care has declined, insurance or lack of ? I don't know. I just want to see my Mom recover and be as she was before. This has been a quick and severe downward spiral since March 2007. Amazing how quickly things can change for the worse. I truly hope they get better, but the medical care seems to leave much to be desired. I hate having to even think about involving an attorney in this type of matter but if things don't get better real soon I'm afraid I'm going to have to. I wish my Mom had health insurance maybe she would've been out of the hospital by now, maybe she would've received better care, better nurses, better drugs, but most of all better treatment. I thought this was America. My Mom is a US citizen born and bred and has paid social security and taxes since her first job .Insurance should not have a bearing on the care and type of treatment you receive. But I strongly feel in has in this case. Hospitals are in the business of making money just like any other lucrative endeavor. I think the US should have some sort of publicly financed health system. Isn't that basically what the health department is now? At least for select individuals? Indigent minorities have received health care for years with the provider knowing full well payment will rest on the taxpayer. At the very least my Mom contributed several thousand dollars via taxes from her jobs. BUT she will be held responsible for her outstanding debt until she pays it OR declares bankruptcy. How very scary to say in 2007.
