Should we ban anti-depressants? Should we ban sleeping pills? Should we ban anti-anxiety medication? Of course not. There are situations were these medications are needed. While these medications as well as diet pills should be available, the affected people should uncover the root of their problems so that they will not be dependent on such pills and may in fact find alternatives to the "pill".
When it comes to weight-loss the solution is not as simple as eat less, move more. If we could all do that there would be no need for this discussion. Most over-weight people have emotional issues that lead them to overeat and many have a serious addiction to food.
I know that for myself whenever I have a slight emotional upset, feel frustrated, unhappy, or bored the first thing that comes to my mind is, "Let me go eat something"
Most times the feeling is so overwhelming that to resist causes unbearable stress.
If diet pills can help a person overcome cravings, control appetite or kick start the metabolism and thus promote weight loss in a healthy way then they are a must. The only issue is to make sure that the pills are safe. As long as the dieter's health is not at risk then diet pills are fine.
