the children face each day. They cannot choose what food goes into their children's mouths unless they pack lunches daily. They cannot choose how their children are taught about sex when that subject is introduced in school. When their children are sick or injured, unfortunately the choice on deciding whether or not the illness demands attention is not theirs either. How many parents have told stories about their child complaining to a teacher of not feeling well or hurting and the teacher, nurse or administrator makes light of it, only to have the child arrive at home after school with a spiking temperature?
If formal education in the school system is best, then why is newspaper content written with eighth grade reading levels in mind? Why are average reading levels now fourth grade? Will newspapers have to downgrade their content to fourth grade level? Why are performance levels of schools so low that schools are being put on probation? Why are children killing children and teachers in schools?
Homeschooled children are reading at much higher levels. They are scoring higher on achievement tests and SAT's. Colleges and Universities are seeking out homeschooled students.
If formal education means attending low-achieving schools that are on probation, learning below capability, and being on lock-down, then yes! Homeschooling is, for me and mine, better than formal education.
