Reba McEntire certainly has had an illustrious career, and that's no secret. From music to television to her own clothing line, she's done it all and with score of her adoring fans grasping her train as she sprints down music row.
Her music career is what has impressed me from the start, and once you hear her beautiful country voice, you are guaranteed to fall in love with her. The first album I bought was one of her early one's entitled It's Your Call. To me this record captures her spirit and sweeps you away while making you drift through the lyrics like an eagle soars.
This thirty-five minute and sixteen second masterpiece is one of her most excellent albums, in my opinion. All I had to do was glance at the cover art and I was hooked. The cover expresses everything without the use of words (except the title) and inside Reba's roots seep through the talented written vernacular, and also transfers her to the streets of Nashville. Around this time frame she displayed her signature feature, her humungous curly bouquet of long brown hair. It just seemed to fit this green-eyed Oklahoma queen to a perfect "t", or an "r" for Reba.
It's Your Call truly displays what I think is the essence of who Reba McEntire really is and what she wants to convey to a non-country insinuated world. Starting with the first song, the number one hit that produced the CD's title, It's Your Call. Like most of her country songs It's Your Call tells a heartbroken tale of a man who had a little something on the side of his relationship with the woman for whom Reba is portraying. So fittingly, the mistress calls their house wanting to talk to him and of course guess who knows of the situation. Consequently he has to make a decision, and the woman portrayed cannot keep playing a guessing game. However, it is never revealed whom he chooses. I love the suspense, don't you?
Rumors and gossip go hand-in-hand in the next song on the list, Straight From You. If you want a little secrecy and wonderment, this song is your best bet. Reba rhymes about a woman whose man is seeing someone else behind her back, just like the first ballad. Apparently, the whole town knows and Reba's identity wants him to admit his affair to her face using his words.
The third song, Take It Back, is one of my personal favorites. It's upbeat, humorous, and not to drown the men in the gene pool, but a very true song on how men can be complete jerks when it comes to relationships. I definitely recommend listening to this one ladies.
