Buying low profile tires certainly has it's merits. I will explain further. But firstly, take into account that your tires are all that's between you, the road, and gravity. Not only that, but safety also.
Then why a low profile tire? Well for one you do have reduced weight pressure. Thus approximately four pounds, for a twenty two point five inch tire. A notable difference overall. Better stability, when the tire is basically enabling a lower sense of gravity. The tire then has a lower platform height also. It's inexpensive overall, and the cornering is much better (as professional drivers will attest to) It enables much better steering control. Better traction in wet weather, and a much better feeling of security on the road. They do look good too!
Now prior to investing in these, take this into account first:
You will need to check your car's required tire size. This will enable you to make the right decision when picking the correct ones for your vehicle. Check the tire's inflation pressure as well. Just remember, that the wear and tear will be much more noticeable, thus due to having less rubber, the low profiles will wear out quicker than others. They age rapidly on rough roads, where potholes etc are the norm. If this is the case, I'd then advise you to buy bigger tires. Thus, take into consideration the quality of the road you shall be driving on frequently!
Take into account also the general climate where you live. You will need wet weather safe, tires, if you generally drive through rain and water. A tougher tire is needed when the climate is hot and harsh. (Rubber contracts and expands with the heat.) Never change tires sporadically; if you are changing one, it is wise( for safety reasons) to change all. Don't have alternate sized tires, make them all the same. This is dangerous. It can cause an accident with incorrect grip, or lack of, on the roads.
Ensure you have a professional install your new tires, and do a wheel alignment and balance at the same time .Take into consideration, the expense, and if these are affordable to you. Don't spend hard earned money, until you are certain your choice is the best.
Do not, I repeat, do not; purchase any tires that go against the car's specifications.
Don't forget that the mileage you get for these tires is going to become much lower than your average tires. Thus it can become an expensive decision.
The appearance is also what makes these tires so popular, so if you are a trendy person, they certainly will enhance the car's general appeal. One thing that many have become aware of though, is the fact that rim damage can occur. They will not have as much protection as the general standards tires. It's definitely a fashion statement, in the car industry. The rims are very flashy indeed, you certainly will be the envy are car enthusiasts. The low profile is certainly an eye catcher.
