What does it mean to be Muslim? It means that I believe in one god, "Allah" and the religion of Islam. The root of Islam can be found in the word. Islam, literally means peace and submission. Submission to whom? Allah. Allah is the Arabic word for god.

With a twenty percent share in the religious sect of the world Islam is an ever growing religion based on five pillars. These five pillars of Islam are the following.

Fasting during Ramadan
Prayer five times daily
Testimony of Faith
Pilgrimage to Mecca
Almsgiving to charity

The religion of Islam was revealed to the prophet, Mohammed whom Muslims to be the true and final prophet. Islam is an interesting religion because it is one of the only ones that recognize the prophets of other religions. These prophets have been sent upon the earth to teach us how to live, and be good people and have faith.

The book of worship is called the Qu'ran which has chapters called sura's, and are organized according to length. The Qu'ran was revealed to Mohammed over 1400 years ago and he was told to recite. This is where the fundamental worship to recite the Qu'ran came into play!

Muslims worship in a mosque like a church but for Islam! If you would like to find more information you should visit your local mosque! Don't be scared they would love to share information with you!
