Understand that this is a very, very touchy issue, and I will try my best not to get mad or unreasonable about it. Many people have powerful personalities, and many people have emotional reactions to this world that we live in that are completely natural, really, and yet the fact that there's not much to be done to change it lays a great burden on their happiness.
I have a lot of personal issues with anti-depressants. First of all, let it be noted that I am studying Homeopathic Health Care, and will have a degree in Herbalism and in Polarity, which is the complete refocusing of the energy in a person's body. This is done through a combination of extremely intimate conversation and through aromatherapy and massage techniques to deliver a catalyst for the interaction - basically, literally ripping out the bad stuff from people's energy bodies. It requires great diligence and care, and to those of us who may not be up-and-up on this sort of thing, is one of the oldest forms of healing in the entire world, varieties of it practiced throughout every culture since... well, who knows. And they didn't just... die off, or kill each other because they were depressed. No, they recognized problems and dealt with them in an efficient, expedient, and justified manner.
That's the core issue with anti-depressant drugs, and any other drug out there on the market that's basically out to make revenue - there are plenty of drugs on the market to counter-act very routine, day-to-day troubles that everyone goes through. Whatever happened to people taking care of their own issues? I'm not saying that everyone out there who happens to be depressed is to blame, for laziness or whatever, but seriously - anti-depressants change the chemistry of your brain, and for many of them, such as lexipro and clonopin, especially lithium, will distort and replace many of the natural reactions occurring in the cerebral cortex.
My sister was on virtually every anti-depressant you can come up with since fifth grade, and she recently decided she was through with it. She came down with a case of fibromialgia, which degenerates your ligaments, and makes it painful to exert any sort of physical labor. As a result, her doctors were forbidding her from things such as bowling, and tennis. She started doing yoga to keep her body somewhat toned, but it wasn't enough to heal her. It is important to note that she was a dancer for several years, and further on was NOT dancing for several years before this happened.
