in-laws can inadvertently cause problems at times such as when they are seriously ill and their child wants to support them. Decide ahead of time how you are going to deal with them. In extreme cases it may be necessary to move so far away that they cannot interfere. Yes, to quote the Bible, "A man shall leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife..." However there some parents who will not allow their child to do that, and some spouses who do not want to do it.
It has been said that a spouse is a person who will stick with you through all the trouble you would not have had if you had remained single. Marriage can stress both partners but it can also be an exciting journey through life. It can be more rewarding and less stressful with proper preparation. A good prenuptial counselor can help make married life both more enjoyable and more successful. Of course this will reduce the need for a prenuptial agreement.
(I will add, however, that if either spouse is widowed or divorced and has children, they should have a prenuptial agreement. Without this, they are setting things up for a nasty fight over property among the children after one or both die. Such an agreement might also be helpful should one need institutional care. Often state assistance depends on assets available and the agreement might prevent the assets of one spouse from counting against eligibility for aid for the other. Consult a lawyer if you are concerned about that.)
