The boycott is a sham. Everyone knows it will end officially the moment Fidel takes his last breath. So, why not now? Every other country in the world is dealing with Cuba. American cigar smokers are buying Cuban cigars from Canada and Mexico. American tourists are visiting Cuba by flying from Canadian airports. Many other illegal business deals are going full tilt without any serious US government intervention.

At this time of international terrorism, the US doesn't need another enemy, especially one just 90 miles away from Florida. This self-defeating nonsense has been going on for nearly 50 years. Maybe the boycott was necessary when Cuba and Russia were playing footsie with nuclear missiles, and when Cuba sent "advisors" to North Vietnam. But that was all in the 1960s.

In the past 15 years, we've succeeded in turning superpowers Russia and China from Communist enemies into market-driven trading partners. Isn't it about time to come to peaceful political and economic terms with just one little island?
