Imagine watching your son on television as he walks up to the final hole and you suddenly receive a text from him simply saying "can't wait." With simply pictures of the determination on his face, you watch as he scores the winning hole. That is the feeling of Richie Ramsey's parents as he found his way onto the golf scene as the 2006 U.S. Amateur Golf champion.

Yet, other than being the champion this previous year, what is so special about Ramsey? He is 23 years old, from Scotland, and the first Scotsman since 1898 to win this championship title. He has won a spot in the 2007 British open, which will be played at Camoustie, which is only an hour from his hometown of Aberdeen.

Richie Ramsey was born to Iain and Sandra Ramsey on June 15, 1983. According to sport.scotsman.com, Ramsey's father said that his son had been planning to qualify for the European Tour this year after he graduates from Stirling University. Ramsey has been playing golf since he was a toddler, and his grandfather would encourage his fascination with golf by taking him to Hazlehead to play the nine-hole course there and later he joined the club as a junior. As a member of the junior pennant team, Ramsey received the taste of competing. By the age of 14, he had surpassed his brother's talents and it was recommended he join a club with a links course. On his 18th birthday he was playing in Japan in the world boys' competition for Scotland.

Ramsey has also won the 2004 Scottish Open Stroke Play and the 2005 Irish Amateur Stroke Play events. He is a member of the 2005 Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team and a former Palmer Cup Team participant. He is still currently a student at the University of Stirling in Scotland.
