Do you ask for a warranty on your car or on your house? Yes of course you do so why is marriage any different? You don't plan on having something in your house to break or something to go wrong with your car but still you protect it, so why not do the same thing with your marriage?
There are so many stereo types to prenups and those really need to be set aside. Just because you sign one or are asked to sign on does not mean you are a mismatched couple. In all honesty it means that you are protecting yourself, your children and your property. If you have children from a previous marriage it protects their inheritance in the event of your death. In most states your spouse will be given your estate leaving your children without a say in the matter. Signing a prenup protects your children in this event.
Not only can a prenup protect your assets and your children but it can also protect your future. You can choose to keep your retirement benefits separate. In the event of a divorce your spouse can take half or your retirement benefits that you worked all your life for. Or if you are going to be a stay at home spouse in the prenup you can have details as to what the working spouse will contribute to your retirement plan.
A prenup is not a contract for divorce it is a contract that protects you in the event that a divorce happens. Yes marriage is a contract but to be honest in this day and age you can never honestly say a divorce will not happen. If it does you want to be protected.
