TV show reviews: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

but with each new season along came a new super villian, who challenged and sometimes killed Buffy in the process, only for her to bounce back and save the day somehow. And not only did she have vampires to deal with, but demons, monsters, witches and even the occasional slayer on a rampage. Buffy simply took it in her stride and found a way.

And let us not forget the tragic love life of our favorite slayer. From beginning to end, it was obvious that Buffy's heart belonged to Angel. Angel, who was once the most dangerous vampire of all, now complete with a soul, was there to help Buffy through so many difficult moments but also became the source of many more, knowing that they could never be together. Then there was Riley, the army cadet out to save the world from the destruction of monsters. It was obvious this relationship was doomed simply because this mortal could not handle the fact that his girlfriend was stronger and more powerful than he ever could be with any man-made weapon. Then finally, there was Spike, in what was possibly the most unusual but best suited relationship for Buffy overall. Once her sworn enemy, this vampire could no longer hurt people, so he choose to fight for good and suddenly their passions got the better of them and their relationship became one of physical satisfaction and intensity. It is hard to say if she ever really loved Spike, but somewhere towards the end I think she did.

Over the seven years this show ran, we watched Buffy grow up, from confused teenager just trying to balance life and normal teenage stuff, to mature adult, with the world on her shoulders and a sister to raise. She became not only the chosen one, there to save the world, but the support for her friends, the mother of her sister, the love of certain vampires and the hero of everyone. There was nothing this girl would not do for those she loved and never would she turn her back on the Honor she had been given, to free the world from evil.

With all this combined and the simple fact that Buffy is possibly the most well-known icon for girl-power that was ever created, all while looking great and still having time for fun, this is truly one of the best shows ever made. Even after its season finale several years ago, Buffy is one of the most popular shows on cable channels such as Fox 8 or the Sci Fi channel, and will continue its reign of popularity for generations to come.
