Easy Outside 'Tub' Gardens....
plants flowers and even trees can be grown in many different types of containers. The first thing you have to do is make sure that the area is able to receive the water draining out of the bottom of the containers and you can rinse the area down with a hose every so often to keep the debris and staining down. If not you will have to provide your containers with pans or something underneath to catch the water dripping through. After you have secured the area then you will have to check for pots or containers that have holes or drainage in the bottom or on the sides near the bottom all around. There are very few plants or flowers that can live in a sodden pot.. and a closed container (no drainage holes)will make for a sodden pot.
Next you must assure that the soil or planting medium (usually soil) will stay in the pot and so you must partly cover the drainage holes with small stones or a material that will prevent the soil from slipping out the bottom. After that you can begin to plant your flowers, seeds, plants or trees if you have a large enough container.
Begin by placing a small amount of your chosen mix or plain soil in the bottom of the pot. Add the flower or plant then lightly pack the soil mix around it to about an inch from the top. For seeds, fill the pot up with soil medium and then poke your finger or a tool into the top of the soil as deep as package directions say then place the seed(s) in and cover the hole. To find specific directions for planting, watering and light etc.needs for specific flora, seeds or trees, search on the internet you will find help and good luck with your outside 'tub' garden..
