Yes, school districts should bar anyone from bringing peanut products to the school. This is because of how wide-spread peanut allergies have become and how susceptible some people are and how severe a lot of reactions are. In the part of Australia where I live most childcare facilities and schools have a ban in place and I believe it is the same in a large part of the rest of Australia. The problem with peanut allergies is that it's not just ensuring the person doesn't injest peanuts as sometimes just touching someone else's hand when they have had a peanut butter sandwich is enough to go into an anaphylactic shock.
We had a case in Australia last year where a high profile person spoke out in order to raise awareness of peanut allergies. He had three children, the eldest two had no allergies, but unbeknownst to his wife and himself his youngest daughter (a toddler) was allergic to peanuts. He had been out with friends for a couple of drinks after work and helped himself to some peanuts that were on the table, when he got home he gave his daughter a kiss and she went into an anaphylactic shock and nearly died.
Imagine sending your child to school, making sure they have no peanuts and the oil residue is on a friend's hand, they hold hands and hello your child is having problems breathing. It is not worth the guilt the other child's parent would feel despite not knowing about your child's allergy; it's not worth the child's guilt (if they even understand what's happened); it certainly isn't worth risking someone's life. I'm not even sure what the legal ramifications would be because the School has a duty of care to it's students.
