God. God is your friend. His rules are for your protection and edification. Study and meditate on the Bible (the Word of God). The Word of God is power, truth and liberation. A lack of knowledge can definitely hurt you and those in your sphere of influence. American culture does not have the answers to living a successful life. God has the answers. In addition to studying and meditating on the Bible, talk to God, which is prayer. Talk to Him respectfully and in language you use everyday so that you will be able to express yourself clearly.
Let's focus on HIV and AIDS. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. HIV causes AIDS. HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system. Our immune system protects us from germs and infections that lead to sickness. The HIV virus finds and destroys a type of white blood cell (T cells or CD4 cells) that the immune system must have to fight sickness. HIV works by reducing the number of healthy immune cells. AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection. It can take a short time or it can take years for a person infected with HIV to reach AIDS. Having AIDS means that the HIV virus has reduced so many healthy immune cells that the immune system has a difficult time fighting infections and the person can now get certain infections.
The U.S. Department for Health and Human Services' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that HIV is a "fragile virus. It cannot live long outside the body. As a result, the virus is not transmitted through day-to-day activities such as shaking hands, hugging, or a casual kiss. HIV is primarily found in the blood, semen, or vaginal fluid of an infected person. HIV is transmitted in 3 main ways: Having sex (anal, vaginal, or oral) with someone infected with HIV, sharing needles and syringes with someone infected with HIV and being exposed (fetus or infant) to HIV before or during birth or through breast feeding."
The CDC's answer for HIV/AIDS is the ABCs of "A" for abstinence, "B" for faithful and "C" for condoms; basically, try to have sex with one person, who you are committed to but not necessarily your husband or wife; avoid injecting drugs; everybody use condoms; everybody get tested for HIV whenever you have a regular medical checkup; but if you cannot control your sexuality or drug use we have some guidelines to hopefully protect yourself and minimize the damage to others.
