Jeremiah 9:23-24 (Amplified Bible) says, "Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise and skillful person glory and boast in his wisdom and skill; let not the mighty and powerful person glory and boast in his strength and power; let not the person who is rich [in physical gratification and earthly wealth] glory and boast in his [temporal satisfactions and earthly] riches; But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord." Pride is at the root of sin (wrong thoughts and wrong behavior). Humility is at the root of righteousness (right thoughts and right behavior expressed toward God, self and others). Pride wants to live without God. Humility seeks God for everything. American society is full of pride; we glorify the self-reliant - those whose wisdom, skill, strength, power and riches come from self. We worship self; self is our idol. Idols are things or people that you worship besides God. One of the definitions of "worship" in Webster's New World Dictionary is "to have intense love or admiration for."

Yet despite all our American, self-made wisdom, skill, strength, power and riches problems like HIV, AIDS, homelessness, hunger, abortion, unwanted pregnancies are rampant. If you don't glorify (worship) God, you will glorify worship Satan. "Glory" is a synonym for "worship". Jesus Christ came to earth that we might have life and have it in abundance. Satan's purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. When people, especially those in leadership roles, don't use the wisdom, skill, power, strength and riches given to them by God for the glory of God, they will end up serving Satan's purposes. God never told us to worship self; God says we are to worship Him - to put no idol above Him. God warns us in Deuteronomy 8:19 (Amplified Bible), "And if you forget the Lord your God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish." Satan, our adversary, rejoices at the worship of self because he knows that this leads to perishing - to the spread of HIV, AIDS, homelessness, hunger, abortion, unwanted pregnancies and all the problems we have. Pray for all people especially leaders to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. It is God who solves our problems, and He uses flawed, godly people
