Noodles and wheat bread and rice, oh my! Are carbs to blame for the continuing problem with Americans being overweight in this day and age. Is a food group the culpable party? Of course not. Thus, the diets that espouse a complete and total elimination of carbohydrates really are off course. Carbohydrates have been around for longer than humans. They are a natural part of a our diet. Eliminating them completely from the diet removes a natural source of good energy that humans need. However, a low-carb diet is perfectly safe, as opposed to the popular no-carb diet.
What it all comes down to is the adage of moderation in all things. While it is demonstrably silly to completely eliminate carbs from the diet, it can be a great idea to reduce one's intake of the simple, processed carbs that make up so much of popular food intake. Eating complex carbs, however, will always be a healthy decision.
Ultimately, food should be enshrined the way it used to be. The gathering and preparing of food used to be an all-day activity. Now, convenience and speed are the order of the day. This leads to unhealthy attitudes toward food, which then lead to laziness in maintenance of a healthy body. Would we let our homes fall down around us for lack of proper care? Our cars? Certainly not. But we are not nourishing healthy bodies, and they are failing us.
So a low-carb diet is safe, because it is not extreme and preaches moderation.
