Testimonies: On being a grandmother
Thinking back of the day my oldest daughter made the announcement to me that she was expecting a child will never be forgotten. First of all, I still looked at her as my little girl and the second thought came to mind, myself being a grandmother. It took quite a while for it to become reality to me.
When I was growing up I had a wonderful grandmother and always said I was going to use her as a mentor. But, all of a sudden I am thinking what will it be like? Will it be as easy as my grandmother made it seem? How will this change my life?
Friends and family were telling me there is nothing like being a grandmother. That child will change your life forever. My thoughts were, how will it change my life any more than my own children?
Well, guess what? Now, I not only have one grandchild, but two grandchildren and I am loving every minute of it. It has definitely changed my life in many ways. I love teaching them, caring for them, playing with them and watch them grow in and out of their own little stages.
They refer to me as "ganny" and when I hear either child say ganny, with great pride I respond. It is so difficult to describe the feeling of being a grandmother. I give thanks every day for the grandchildren and hopefully will have more. If you are already a grandmother you know what it feels like. If not, I hope you are looking forward to one day being a grandmother. It is great!
