Reflections: Drinking

Title: Reflections: Drinking

A roller coaster ride slowly climbing to the top of the rail and suddenly dropping quickly to the bottom of the rail sometimes reminds me of life. Life living with someone who drinks.
As long as it is daytime and he is at work, you feel safe. Knowing the end of the week has come, it becomes dreadful. As you drive home from work you are wondering what will take place tonight? Will it be quiet and peaceful, or will it be one of those nights to put up with staggering and slurring of speech. Then you stop and think, are the children going to be home tonight?

Arriving at home with a sense of nausea, because your stomach is in a knot from speculating. You slowly push the door open to assess the situation. Then a thought comes to mind. Oh, it is still early for him to make his grand entrance.
Sitting there not being able to focus on any one thing, he enters. The familiar look with a flushed face just makes me want to run and never come home, because I sense what will happen.
The man you once loved and adored, that was once so gentle and caring, will suddenly become like a bull in the china closet. Now, the drunk man that loves no one but himself, and is so inconsiderate, becomes emotionally and physically abusive.
The following morning, the same ritual of I am so sorry, I will never do it again, and I love you so much is coming out of the mouth of the same man that emotionally and physically abused you the night before.
After taking this for 25 years, I left and never turned back. I never thought I could climb all the way to the top as a roller coaster does, but I did. I hope I never have to drop back down to the bottom again.
