Richie Ramsay June 18, 2007
Richie Ramsay born June 15th, 1983 is one of the world's hot young golfers. He is from Aberdeen, Scotland. Here his grandfather introduced him to the game. He is the current American Amateur champion. It is expected that he will turn pro after this year's Walker Cup.

Hazelhead in Aberdeen was the course where Ramsay's grandfather took him to play. He soon began competing for their youth club. A local Businessman, Francis Clark became aware of his talents and helped him to secure a membership at Royal Aberdeen, now his home club.

In 2006 Richie Ramsay became the first British player to win the US Amateur Championships since Harold Hilton in 1911. He was the first Scotsman since 1898. Because of his win at the Amateur Championships, he was given a pass to play in the Master's and the 2007 US Open. In order to use these passes he had to remain an amateur.

Ramsay made a good showing at the Masters even though he didn't make the cut, finishing with a score of 76 for round one and an 80 for round two. His patience in turning pro paid off when he was paired with Tiger Woods on the first day of the US Open where he shot a 78 compare to Wood's 74 on the treacherous Oakmont course. He beat Geoff Ogilvy the next round by one stroke, but just missed the cut. Think golf will see a lot more of this young man.
