Disability Insurance through work...What Are We Paying For?
Never in a thousand years did I ever expect to have such a fight with the Insurance
Company that took their monies out my weekly paycheck faithfully for years. I mean
I paid for this service with the preconceived notion that they would be there if and when anything unforeseen would happen to lessen my ability to work. What I have encountered instead is one of the most horrifying and discouraging battles. In fact,
it makes me wonder what in the world did I pay for? This company Jefferson Pilot
(Lincoln Financial) was quick to shorten my paycheck week after week while offering
me their "BIG SNOW-JOB PROMISE." With three doctors and 2 major tests (MRI and Myleogram) confirming that I have a number of maladies contributing to my disability
which include chronic tarlov cysts which are eroding my spine - herniated discs and
massive arthritis they still REFUSE to hold up their end. They expect you to continually see the doctor when they are not paying you so that you have the money for gas and co-pays. My doctor is a specialist located out of my state. They will never pick up the phone and contact the professionals themselves. They expect the
patient to run around and collect all the test results and paperwork from clinics,
hospitals and the doctors. All they really do is tell you over and over again that you are denied. They push you to return to work, against doctors orders and yet no company will hire you under the conditions. The doctor has you ordered to bedrest which cannot be done when you have to do the leg work to ensure your case with the disability claims office. Their goal is to relentlessly discourage you into giving up on bugging them while they sit on top of your hard earned dollars. Sorry to vent
here. Was I naive? Was I a fool to continually contribute my finances to a company that had no intention from the get go to assist their clients who really do become sick? If I was asking for something for nothing...I would understand but what I want to know is What Did I Pay For? Will the insurance company put into writing that
I am ok to work even though multiple doctors say that I can not? Who in their right
mind would pay for this type of grief? Why are we not forewarned? My last question
is How Can Insurance Companies Treat Individuals With a Chronic Illness Like They Have Committed A Crime?
