Silver Dollar Restaurant is located on the corner of Route 47 and Route 71 in Yorkville, IL. This older, country style restaurant is a favorite of many families, and older couples that have lived in the Yorkville area for some time.
To give an example of Silver Dollar's beliefs on customer satisfaction, recently a Yorkville newspaper wrote a front-page human-interest story about a group of people, that everyday, for almost 40 years, have met together for coffee at the Silver Dollar on 47 and 71.
The immediately apparent quiet atmosphere is comforting, making the dining experience more pleasant, considering screaming children, and/or obnoxious loudmouths are a common occurrence in most restaurants. The age group is rather old however, considering the youngest person, not counting myself, was a young couple, around the age of 30, and the oldest, probably spanned into the 80's.
The seating is very comfortable for restaurant chairs, and you may feel yourself sink down an inch or so when seated at a booth. The extremely soft booth seats and backs are a nice touch, and when accompanied by the quiet atmosphere, it is easy to feel tired by the end of the meal.
The menu offers a nice selection of food and drinks, however, because Silver Dollar is an older establishment, alcohol is not served in any form. Breakfast is available at all times of the day, and as their menu states, their pancakes are what made them famous.
My personal experience was ordering Steak and Eggs, which included 3 pancakes, sausage, hash browns, a Pepsi, and would have also included grits, but did not, because they were out of grits. Everything was prepared perfectly, and tasted wonderfully. Because I did not want to fill up too quickly, I waited until the end to have the pancakes, which came to be the best part of the meal.
The pancakes were soft and fluffy, and absorbed the syrup to an extent. The syrup was warm and sweet, but not overly sugary like some store bought syrups. Their pancakes were the best part of the meal, and it is obvious why the menu says their pancakes made them famous.
The overall meal, consisting of 3 pancakes, a steak, 2 eggs, sausage links, and hash browns, and a Pepsi, cost less than $9. Because of the wonderful food, and friendly wait staff, that doesn't mind having sharing idle chitchats with customers, and not to mention the unbelievably low price of a good sit down meal in the middle of the day, a tip of 50% of the bill was in order. Even with the 50% tip, the meal did not exceed $12.00.
