on the conversation having just delivered your precious sister, I told her that I intend to carry out my threats of suing. The next morning, as I had woken up to my reality of a brand new baby, there was a knock on my door, a flower-delivery man. He had the most gorgeous bouquet of flowers for me, it was a delight to see, it even came with a vase of its own, as I placed them on my table, My room came alive, I didn't notice that the paint on the wall was all gone revealing the plaster, I was already put on notice that my TV doesn't work. Well, the flower lifted my lonely mood.
Who could it be from? I wonder, I thought it was from your father who was in Rome at that time, I knew he was thinking about us but as I read the unfamiliar name at the bottom of the card, it was from the walk-away doctor congratulating me on the birth of my new baby. The guilty are indeed afraid. Did I mention that she called in my room at night to talk with me, I listen to her talk about her family, her life and her friends, she tried to make amends for her mistake, but I knew it was too late. She commented on how intelligent I was, but I shouldn't prove my intelligence before getting a good treatment. I was later to understand that it is the kind of treatment most Refugee women or asylum-seekers get in the hospital.
My Doctor encouraged me to write a letter to the board of the hospital, because according to her, I can speak and I have the voice to represent the many that are voiceless who pass through the hospital everyday and get treated carelessly.
Regretfully I never did, and that is my lesson Number 5. In all you do, know that you represent a sea of people, because of your actions, people like you might get a chance at a better treatment. Do not take this responsibility lightly, because the breaks you get in life might have been because of the actions of another.
I am not trying to give the impression that your life will always be difficult and bitter, but the fact of the matter is that, as life is difficult so will you find "rainbows in the clouds". You will meet people who have a different colour than you who would love you for you, who would believe in you more than you believe in yourself. You will meet those that are proud to call you their friend and will honour that friendship with their last sweat.
You must be conscious not feel by accepting their friendship you have become white by association. No, you are unique in both your colour and content, never give up your culture and heritage, be proud of your origins. When you are comfortable almost, never join in the fun of laughing at your own people, for that is a sin that without repentance.
I must stop here for now but I shall write you again, when I will share the myths that devalue the back man, and how to know one when you see it. I would also like to talk about God and his role in all this, of great importance to me is the fashion-statement you make with your clothes. I shall explain the different effects on you. I shall still draw examples from my life.
I shall endeavour to write about laughter and it racial role.
Till then, keep the flAG of racial pride flying.
With love from you mom
